Chris Belleau

Though trained as a potter, Christopher Belleau soon turned to the more ethereal, fluid and translucent qualities of glass and its endless opportunity to play with color. As the only glass blower in Rhode Island who makes colored glass from raw ingredients, Chris can achieve variations in intensity of hue, tone and depth which are not available with commercial colors.

Chris has been sculpting individual glass flowers, textured glass shells, large multi-colored fish and ocean waves that seem to defy gravity in his Providence, RI studio since 1994. He prides himself that each flower, fish or wave is unique; no two of his creations are alike. His extensive repertoire of more than 30 flower forms ranges from familiar flowers to the exotics to the purely fanciful. These include the iris, tiger lily, tulip, orchid, and bird of paradise to name a few, which are best displayed in one of his exquisite hand-blown vases with complementary long-stemmed glass leaves.

“It is my hope that the viewer finds my work to have a sense of beauty, magic --- and maybe --- even humor.”
