Mauricio Garay
Mauricio Garay is descended from an artistically talented family. At an early age, he began to develop an interest in art. Mauricio is a self-taught figurative and impressionistic painter with a strong passion for art.His style is described as impressionistic and in his paintings, he highlights alleyways, marketplaces, landscapes, and figures. Mauricio's work is characterized by his use of rich and vibrant colors, as well as his signature brush strokes and palette knife.
Descended from a family with artistic tradition, Mauricio began to arouse his interest in art at an early age, with some artistic guidance from his uncle Carlos Garay. This recognized artist painted beautiful sceneries of Honduran countryside as well as it's people's traditions. Mauricio is a figurative and impressionist artist who was awarded the best artist's prize award in his country. Mauricio is a continuous and determined artist whose passion is art. He studied at The National University of Honduras.
Mauricio is dedicated entirely to the realization of his art, which is his passion. Characterized impressionist in Highlighting alleys, marketplaces, landscapes, cubist sceneries, seascapes, and figures with his bold color palette range vast color schemes. His rich and vibrant colors are among his signature, fluent in his brushstrokes and characterized by mastering the use of the spatula knives seen in his paintings.
Artist Statement
Mauricio is well known for his art nationally and abroad. He has had the opportunity to receive numerous awards, prizes, and recognition, among these the Prize Award of The XXV Painting Biennial of Central America and The Caribbean hosted by the Instituto Hondureño of Cultura Interamericana IHCI, with Rio de Sangre awarded the Prize Award in the Caribbean and Latin American Painting Biennale.
His art featured in literary reviews and journals, press, and interviews. Participating artist in BID Bank of Interamerican Development Sidewalk of The Americas participating artist, the Third on Canvas Plein Air event, and Art Auction. Participation in The Central American artists Central America united with their forests against climate change representing Honduras, organized by (GIZ), Regional Program REDD / CCAD-GIZ Program operates under the direction of the Central American Commission on Environment and Development (CCAD), the environmental agency of the Central American Integration System (SICA) and the GIZ, funded by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany through the Federal Ministry Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Featured art in public installations such as The Board of Collier County Commissioners Board Room at the Government Center, The von Liebig Art Center. Mauricio has also been a featured artist in the artist spotlight of Professional Artist Mag, Blick art guide, commissioned by the Government of Honduras, among other diplomatic offices.
Mauricio has exhibited in the financial field, government, non-government offices, and cultural institutions. Mauricio is a member of IHCH, NAA, for many years. He actively participates in charitable organizations, art education programs, silent auctions and has been a juror at many events. Mauricio was an art gallery owner for several years in one of the capital's leading venues, such as the two main airports of Ramon Villeda Morales, Toncontin International in Honduras, and Boulevard Morazán.
